１、概要
　近年、日本では、多くの外国人や外国にルーツを持つ人々が暮らしています。その中で、彼ら・彼女らの定住化が進むにつれて、外国にルーツをもつ子どもたちへの教育の課題が出てきています。その１つが、日本語を母語としない親たちが、学校や保育園で配られる配布物を理解することができず、教育に主体的に関わることができないという課題です。一方、地域でも自治体や町内会で配布されるお知らせや、回覧板を読むことができず、大事な情報を知る手段がない人たちがたくさんいます。近所とのコミュニケーションをとることも難しく、孤立してしまう外国人住民もいます。これに対しアイキャンは、「言葉を含む文化の異なる人々が互いに助け合い、共に生きていく地域社会を作る」という理念のもと、様々な活動をおこなっています。

1: Overview
　In recent years, many immigrants and people with roots in other countries started living in Japan. As the number of their settlements increase, educational challenges for the children who have roots in other countries have emerged. One of the challenges is that parents who are non-native Japanese speakers can’t take the initiatives in education for their children as well as not being able to understand the handouts delivered by the school or nursery. Meanwhile, in communities many people have no means of getting important information without being able to read notices and circulars distributed by municipalities and neighbourhood associations. Some immigrants have difficulties in communicating with their neighbours therefore becoming isolated. In response, ICAN is conducting various activities based on the principle ”Create a local society where people with different cultures including languages support each other and live together”.

２、学校や町内会、自治体等の書類が読めなくてお困りの方、その内容を伝えられなくてお困りの方へ
　学生や市民のボランティアの協力を得て、学校や自治会、町内会で配布されるお知らせ等を無料で英語・中国語・インドネシア語に翻訳しています。

【ご利用方法】
１）翻訳が必要な原稿をＦＡＸ（０５２−２５３−７２９９）またはＥメール・携帯メール（children@ican.or.jp）でアイキャンへお送りください。個人情報が含まれる場合は、個人情報を伏せて送ってください。郵送での対応も可能ですが、郵送日数がかかる為、お時間をいただきます。
２）アイキャンから原稿を受け取ったことを連絡させていただきます。
３）約１週間（内容、原稿量、ご希望によります）でご希望の言語に翻訳したものをＦＡＸまたはＥメール・携帯メール（ご希望により郵送）でお渡しします。

2: To those who have difficulties in reading documents or staff passing on information to the parents on behalf of the school, neighbourhood associations, and municipalities.

　We are translating documents such as notices distributed by schools, municipalities, and neighbourhood associations into English, Chinese, and Indonesian at no charge; in cooperation with volunteers both students and citizens.

【How to use this service】
1) Please send manuscripts required to be translated to ICAN by fax at 052-253-7299 or e-mail/mobile phone email at children@ican.or.jp . If possible please do not disclose important personal information. Responding by postal mail is also available, however, we require additional time for mailing.
2)ICAN will contact you to confirm its receipt.
3)Translated document will be dispatched around a week later depending on the content, amount of manuscripts, and your request by fax, e-mail, or mobile phone email. Sending by postal mail is also available if requested.

３、英語・中国語・スペイン語・ポルトガル語翻訳ボランティアとして参加してくださる方へ

　英語・中国語・スペイン語・ポルトガル語に翻訳していただけるボランティアの方を募集しています。あなたの語学力を地域で暮らす外国人の住民の方々、そして外国にルーツをもつ子どもたちの教育活かしてみませんか？

【条件】
　英語：英検準１級、又はＴＯＥＩＣ７５０点程度以上の英語力を有する方（または、これらに相当する英語力を有する方）、翻訳経験がある方はご明記ください。

ネイティブチェックボランティア募集

　大切な情報を正確に伝えるため、アイキャンでは翻訳原稿の文章と内容を確認してから依頼者にお渡ししています。そのため、アイキャンでは文章をチェックしていただくネイティブボランティアの方（英語・中国語・インドネシア語）も募集しています。

3: To those who participate as translation volunteers in English, Chinese, Spanish and Portugal.

　We are seeking for volunteers who can translate into English, Chinese, Spanish and Portugal. Would you like to turn your linguistic ability into support for foreign residents living in communities or education for children with roots in other countries?  

【Requirements】

English
: Those who hold the STEP test pre-1st grade certificate or higher
: Those who have a TOEIC score of 750 or higher
: Those with equivalent English proficiency to the above
　Please specify translation experience if you have any.

Native speaker proofreading volunteers

ICAN gives the translations to the clients after native speakers have checked the scripts and contents in order to convey information accurately. Therefore, I CAN is also seeking native volunteers who check scripts in English, Chinese, and Indonesian.

４、「外国にルーツを持つ子どもたち」会員募集

　外国にルーツを持つ子どもたちが教育を受けられるように、アイキャンでは「外国にルーツを持つ子どもたち」会員として、ともに夢をかなえてくださる方を募集しています。

キッズパートナー「外国にルーツを持つ子どもたち」
年会費：１８，０００円（一口）（月１，５００円分）
＊アイキャンは「認定ＮＰＯ法人」のため、税制優遇があります。

使途：外国にルーツを持つ子どもや人々が、日本で障害なく暮らせるようになるための様々な活動に使用します。現在は、特に無料翻訳活動や啓発活動に力を入れています。

4: Seeking members of the project, “Children with roots in foreign countries”

ICAN is looking for people who can support this project as a member of “Children with roots in foreign countries” in order to bring to fruition the dream of children receiving a fulfilling education.

【How to participate】
Kids’ Partners - Children with roots in foreign countries
Membership: 18,000yen per unit (equivalent to 1,500yen per month).*
Funds will be used for various activities which enable the children and　people with foreign roots to live in Japan without barriers.
Currently, we focus particularly on free translation and educational activities.

Privilege of membership: quarterly newsletters “Voice of the children as well as semi-annual reports of main activities and other reports.

* Since ICAN is an “authorized NPO”by Tax Agency of Japanese Government, tax benefits are available.

５、アイキャンについて
　アイキャンは１９９４年に設立された、認定ＮＰＯ法人として登録されている日本のＮＧＯ団体です。これまで１７年間、特定の政治信条や宗教、企業母体を持たず、「一人ひとりのできること」を集め、人々の『ために』ではなく、人々と『ともに』」を信条に、フィリピンの路上の子どもたちや紛争地の子どもたち、ごみ処分場の子どもたち、先住民族の子どもたち、外国にルーツがある子どもたち等「危機的状況にある子どもたち」の活動を行っています。

　I CAN is a Japanese non-profit organisation, established in 1994 and registered as an authorized NPO without having specific political faiths, creeds, or business enterprises. For 17 years we have engaged in activities for “Children in critical situations” such as children living on the streets in the Philippines, in areas of conflict and waste disposal sites as well as Filipino children and children with roots in foreign countries. This endeavour is based on our principle: “Gather the strength of what each person can do and do it not for people but with people”.
